The talk addresses the challenge of developing next-generation condition monitoring systems for the supervision of turnouts in the railway infrastructure. The acquisition, integration and deployment of new sensing and processing systems for asset monitoring should be performed accounting for the different stakeholders involved in the maintenance planning and execution. Within the INTELLISWITCH project the research explored potential pathways for the integration of new distributed smart sensing technology with legacy systems widely adopted in Europe. This resulted in the development of novel condition monitoring solutions that provides the infrastructure manager with novel actionable information that is still intelligible for the maintenance personnel. The presented research outcome is based on the collaboration with Banedanmark in the period 2015-2019 through the INTELLISWITCH project.
